Naraya is a charming traditional Japanese inn ( ryokan ) located in Kusatsu Onsen, one of the best onsen resorts in Japan. Naraya was founded during the Meiji era in 1877. All of guest rooms are Japanese-style featuring tatami mats. Naraya have both indoor and outdoor onsen (hot springs) and two private onsens. Naraya is located in the heart of Kusatsu Onsen, beside the Yubatake. Naraya's Shogun bath is a well-known onsen in the area. 1) By Bullet Train + Spa Resort Liner -- Recommended, Take a Nagano bullet train ( Shinkansen ) from Tokyo or Ueno station to Karuizawa station (1 hour). Then take a Kusatsu-Karuizawa Spa Resort Liner bus to Kusatsu Now Resort Hotel, Naraya's sister hotel (1 hour and 10 minutes). 980Yen for adults / 680Yen for children. It departs at 11:40AM and 4:10PM everyday. Free pickup service is provided from the Kusatsu Now Resort Hotel to Naraya. 2) By Kusatsu Express, Take a Tokkyu Kusatsu from Ueno station (Tokyo) to Naganohara Kusatsuguchi Station (2.5 hours). Then take a bus from the station to the Kusatsu Onsen stop (25 minutes). Naraya is 5 minutes away on foot. Pickup service is also provided from the bus stop.
